Napoli  made several big moves over the summer as the Italian side look to maintain their place as a resurgent power in European football. The arrivals of Dries Mertens, Gonzalo Higuain  and others have gone a long way to putting belief into the fans that manager Rafael Benitez  has a strong future for the club ahead of them.
However, some of the most recent links for the club have been rubbished by the manager as false according to Sky Sports and there is yet to be a story break as to whom the club are really believed to be pursuing this winter.
Initially links to Chelsea stars David Luiz and Juan Mata looked as those there was some merit to them. With Luiz having had his links to Bayern Munich rubbished as well it looks clear that Jose Mourinho is going to hold onto his Brazilian defender.
Mata likewise has had his fate believed stuck to Stamford Bridge until at least the summer, but anything can change in transfer windows depending on the amount of cash a club is willing to throw around.
Additionally Benitez has also been linked with a move for his former Liverpool charge Javier Mascherano  from Barcelona, but the Catalan club as well as the Spanish manager have stopped those rumors as well.
It will be interesting to see just what comes of all the talk about Napoli this Winter as the Neapolitan side are certainly still in the hunt for a top two finish or even a Scudetto is Juventus can be knocked off their pedestal in the second half of the Italian campaign.
