Newcastle have had a rough start to the season but the club continue to try and push their way back up the table.
The defensive contingent of the club has seen more than its fair share of injuries this term and continues to be a makeshift central duo of Michal Williamson and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa as both Steven Taylor and Fabricio Coloccini remain sidelined.
Young defensive home-grown starlet Paul Dummett also is on the injured list for the game as the news this week for him looks to see him signing a long term new deal for the club.
The club played 120 minutes against Manchester City on Wednesday this week and manager Alan Pardew is likely to have to make some changes with Johann Gouffran and Vurnon Anita set to return to the bench because of potential fatigue.
Yohan Cabaye and Hatem Ben Arfa should be rested enough because of being subs in midweek while Cheick Tiote and Mohamed Sissoko could be two of the first that are subbed off if fatigue begins to be a problem.
The real concern will continue to be in defense as the pairing of Williamson and Yanga-Mbiwa will be going on tired legs and could be in trouble during the second half against Fernando Torres, Oscar, Eden Hazard and Andre Schurrle.
It is a crucial match for both sides and while Chelsea needs it to try and take a stab at the top of the table, Newcastle needs a morale boost to help them get ready for the busiest part of the campaign this late Fall and Winter.
