The Algerian football team will play Tuesday, in Blida, against Burkina Faso to qualify for 2014 World Cup in Brazil , with the hope of fulfilling the dream of all the Algerians: snatching a fourth qualification for a final passage to one of the world’s largest sporting events.
Since independence, Algeria has been twelve times involved in qualifying phases of this competition, including three successful matches in the editions of 1982 (Spain), 1986 (Mexico) and 2010 (South Africa).
The Algerian first participation in world cup sporting event dates back to 1970 while the last one is that which will be organized in Brazil in June.
After three consecutive failures in the playoffs of the editions of 1970, 1974 and 1978 that Algeria succeeded to qualify in 1982, in Spain, for a world sporting event. In 1982 Spain World Cup, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of Algeria’s independence, the national team snatched victory over Germany (2-1).
Tuesday 19 November 2013 will coincide with the triumphal return to Algiers of Antar Yahia’s teammates, who, one day before in Omdourman (Soudan), snatched their ticket to South Africa by beating Egypt (1-0).
