Egyptian actor Yahia Al Fakharani has completed a new
cartoon series "animal stories in the Koran," marking his first ever
cartoons experience. Yahia revealed that he was reluctant to work in the new
cartoon series, which is a production of internationally known ‘Walt Disney’, fearing
for the Arab religious and cultural values. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
A press conference was held in celebration of completing
the cartoon. The conference witnessed heated debates about the current
political situation in Egypt. During the conference, Yahia announced that he is
not supportive of the call for a demonstration in Egypt Taharir Square
scheduled to take place on Friday July 8.
The demonstrators will be calling for prosecution and punishment
of those responsible for the deaths of so many during the Egyptian Revolution
of January 25, which overthrew the government of ousted President Husni
Mubarak. Yahia stressed that the protesters should leave the matter to be
handled by Egypt’s judicial system, stressing that people must be wise and calm
in order help Egypt begin its reformation.
At the press conference Yahia revealed that he turned
down his nomination by ‘Walt Disney’ to present the Arabic version of the
cartoon film “Toy Story”, which featured American Hollywood star Tom Hanks.
With regards to the cartoon “Animal stories in the Koran”,
Yahia said that he was very fearful to take on such an experience, due to the
fact that children cannot be fooled easily. Each episode of the cartoon tell a
story of a different animal referred to in the holy Koran.
