RAK Ceramics, the world's largest ceramic tiles & sanitaryware manufacturing company, has recently been awarded the Environmental Performance Certificate (EPC) by the UAE Ministry of Environment and Water (MOEW), in recognition of its successful efforts to comply with environmental protection standards and regulations. Dory Angel, HSE and Logistics Manager, led the RAK Ceramics delegation that received the certificate during a special ceremony held at Ajman University.
Launched by the MOEW under Federal Environmental Law No 24/1999 and its amendment for the Protection and the Development of the Environment, the EPC seeks to encourage businesses to support efforts to protect the environment and reduce pollution.
Dr. Khater Massaad, CEO, RAK Ceramics, said: "Environmental protection and conservation is a top priority at RAK Ceramics and we are pleased that the UAE Ministry of Environment and Water has recognised RAK Ceramics' environmental advocacy. We firmly believe in the value and importance of environmental sustainability, which is why RAK Ceramics continues to develop new and innovative ways to limit the ecological impact of our operations. The Environmental Performance Certificate will surely promote greater environmental accountability within the entire RAK Ceramics organisation and reinforce the company's reputation as a leading environmental advocate."
The EPC is awarded based on the review of the environmental permit obtained; health, safety and environment (HSE); the implementation of cleaner production, monitoring and control of gaseous emissions and particulate matters; management of chemical substances, and integrated management of solid, non-hazardous and hazardous wastes; treatment and reuse of domestic and industrial wastewaters; and noise, odour hazard, and nuisance control.
RAK Ceramics is a USD 1 billion global conglomerate in the ceramic industry, offering a product portfolio comprising over 6,000 designs in ceramic tiles, Gres Porcellanato, and several models in sanitaryware. The company has also been recently conferred the SuperBrand 2010 Award and continues to be a global pioneer in the world of ceramics through innovative products such as the RAKSLIM, a new brand of 4.5-millimetre thick tile that sets new industry benchmarks in thickness, strength, cost and ease of use.
