Oman on alert ahead of Cyclone
Cyclone Phet's speed on Thursday increased, raising it to category 3, as it got closer to the eastern coasts of the Sultanate of Oman. According to Kuna, the cyclone is set to have an effect on the Omani coasts starting from 5 p.m. Thursday until Friday evening.
Musaira island and Sour governorate witnessed rainfall, while rain is expected Thursday evening to Saturday in Muscat, Al-Batina, and other areas, the report added.
The Sultanate's civil defense forces evacuated more than 10,000 people from Musaira island to safer places ahead of the tropical cyclone that could hit the sultanate's east coast on Thursday.
Markets and fuel stations became crowded since Wednesday. In addition, the Health Ministry established heath centers in areas that are expected to be hit by the cyclone.
Some three years ago, a cyclone that hit Oman killed more than 100 people and left several others missing.
