One-third of UAE consumers buy luxury brands
Around a third of UAE consumers buy luxury goods and are particularly attracted to designer apparel and accessories, according to a recent survey conducted by global marketing research firm ACNielsen. The results explain the sustained growth of the UAE’s thriving fashion industry. Other major factors that have positively influenced the Emirates’ fashion sector are support from international designing firms, government-organized fashion events, and the growing global prominence of designers from the UAE. Graduate students of Esmod Dubai, the leading fashion school in the region, underscored the UAE’s emergence as a major fashion hub during their participation in the 2nd ‘Who’s Next & Premiere Classe in Dubai,’ a unique fashion trade show dedicated to the Middle East region held recently at the Madinat Jumeirah hotel. Esmod Dubai also partnered with the ‘EMPTY QUARTER’ fashion photo exhibition held in October where pictures from the 1950s showing some of the first collections of Dior and Issey Miyake were put on display. Esmod Dubai students are regularly involved in backstage work for the various fashion shows held in Dubai. “We constantly expose our students to various fashion events to give them a feel of the specific needs of the local and regional markets and learn about the latest global industry trends. It is very rewarding to see our wards enhance their creativity and confidence through this hands-on approach to learning,” said Tamara Hostal, Director and Founder of Esmod Dubai. Since opening in 2006, Esmod Dubai has been accepting a growing number of students to fulfill its mission of expanding the Middle East’s fashion industry and fostering more appreciation for haute couture among the region’s consumers. Its students come from 47 different countries, with over 40 per cent being GCC nationals and UAE locals. These activities come in paralle to the joining of Christopher Beaufays, Designer and Creative Assistant of world-renowned French haute couture fashion designer Jean-Paul Gaultier, as Esmod Dubai's new Associate Artistic & Creative Director Mr. Beaufays, being part of world renowned designer Jean Paul Gaultier’s success, will also perform a host of other creative duties at Esmod Dubai, including art direction of the schools fashion shows; providing creative guidelines to students; developing their creativity and skills in style and model-making; working with teachers to achieve the director’s creative and quality objectives; as well as preparing students to become fashion leaders of the Middle East fashion industry
