The International Cycling Union (UCI) has stripped disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong of his seven Tour de France titles following orders from the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).

On October 10, USADA had published a report into Armstrong, which alleged the now retired American rider had been involved in the 'most sophisticated, professionalised and successful doping programme sport has ever seen'.

UCI president Pat McQuaid said the governing body will not challenge USADA's decision, and added that tainted sportsman like Armstrong has no place in cycling.

"Cycling has a future .. not the first crossroads we have faced ... will find a new path forward. The UCI wishes to begin that journey by NOT challenging the USADA report," McQuaid said in a press conference in UCI headquarters in Geneva.

"The UCI is listening to cycling and on your side. We've come too far in the fight against doping to return to our past. Something like this must never happen again," he added.

"There is no place for Lance Armstrong in cycling. Our message is ..... cycling has a future. It will find a new path foward. We will start that journey today by recognising USADA," he said.

McQuaid while answering to a question about how cycling fans have been let down by the UCI said: "What was available to the UCI at the time [1999-2005] was much more limited to what we have now. If we had the tools we have now then, there would have much much less [doping] going on." (ANI)
