Newcastle train in Dubai
English Premier League (EPL) sides Newcastle United and Stoke City will join Manchester City for warm weather training camps in the UAE this week.
Manchester City are training at Al Jazira’s Mohammad Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi from Monday to Thursday with a friendly game against Hamburg at the Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Newcastle and Stoke will both be on camp in Dubai from Monday to Thursday at Dubai Sports City and the Jebel Ali Centre of Excellence, respectively.
Newcastle are out of the FA Cup Round of 32 this weekend and don’t have a game following a 1-0 third round defeat to Leicester City. Manchester City, however, will need to be back in time for Saturday’s cup game at home to Middlesbrough, and Stoke must return for their away trip to Rochdale in the cup on Monday.
Newcastle United’s interim coach John Carver was forced to defend his sides Dubai trip following their 2-1 defeat at home to Southampton on Saturday.
“People will be putting two and two together and thinking it’s a jolly,” he said. “But let me tell you it’s no jolly-up. There will be curfews and I will treat the players with respect, but if anyone oversteps the mark or breaks the curfew then they will be fined.”
