Al Jazira swoop on Al Hilal’s Thiago Neves
The news follows reports on Sunday of an imminent deal between Al Jazira and Italian giants AS Roma for the services of Ivorian frontman Gervinho for a reported â¬13 million, according to the Italian media. Al Jazira have yet to confirm either deal.
Neves, 30, scored 10 goals in 20 Saudi League appearances this season, and played in the Riyadh club’s Kings Cup win on Friday.
The former Fluminense and Hamburg player, who has played seven games for the Brazilian national team, reportedly joins on a three-year deal.
Al Jazira are currently undergoing a summer clearout after finishing second in the Arabian Gulf League this season. Coach Eric Gerets has yet to be relieved of duties despite claims that Internacional coach Abel Braga is set for a return to his old club.
If Neves and Gervinho join, the Abu Dhabi club will look to offload Argentinian midfielder Manuel Lanzini and Burkinabe winger Jonathan Pitroipa.
Brazilian midfielder Jucilei — who plays under Palestinian citizenship — and Montenegrin striker Mirko Vucinic, make up the club’s current foreign quartet.
Elsewhere, newly promoted second tier champions Dibba Fujairah have unveiled Brazilian tactician Sergio Alexandre as their new coach. Second-placed Al Shaab are due to appoint Egyptian coach Tarek Al Ashry.
