Why Alexis Sanchez chose Arsenal over Liverpool
Liverpool had looked to have an advantage on acquiring the services of 25-year-old Chilean winger, Alexis Sanchez, early on in the race for the youngster because of having Luis Suarez as a bargaining chip with Barcelona.
However, it appeared that that was still not enough and the player himself maintained the position throughout the pending move that Arsenal was his primary place of choice if a deal was to be made and he got what he wanted.
The £35 million deal saw Sanchez unveiled at the Emirates to a new adoring fan base and he will have an interesting time competing with Theo Walcott, Santi Cazorla, Lukas Podolski and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for a place in the first team.
Brendan Rodgers believes that it was more the city of London than the club Arsenal that helped to sway the mind of the young player according to his comments to the Star:
"Geography dictated where he wanted to go - simple as that. It’s been the other way.
It wasn't due to a lack of ambition by the club. It was about where the player and his family wanted to choose to live.
He’s a fantastic player and would have suited us. His profile would have been great but it was not to be and we move on.
Lots of players are really impressed by what we are doing as a club and really excited about coming to Liverpool."
Since the snub of Sanchez the Reds have completed the deal for young Serbian winger Lazar Markovic and continue to look strong in the transfer market.
