Arsenal linked with Man City's Dzeko
Arsenal are expected to be in the market for a new striker in January in order to reduce the workload for Olivier Giroud, who has already made 17 appearances. The anticipated return of Lukas Podolski in the next few weeks is unlikely to stop them from pursuing their targets like Karim Benzema. The Real Madrid striker has been a target for the club since the summer, but they did not make an official offer.
According to the Express, Manchester City's Edin Dzeko could join Arsenal's January transfer targets. Arsenal have lost several players to City in the last few years, and this could be a great opportunity to bite them back. Dzeko has not been a regular starter throughout his time at City. He would have been hoping that the summer change of the playing staff and management would improve his fortunes, but it has not been any better.
Dzeko has voiced his opinions recently by saying that he should be starting more matches. He said:
"I need to play more than I am. I’ve only started four games in the Premier League. But if you put me in there for 90 minutes, everything is possible."
Apart from his first season, Dzeko has been a regular goalscorer. This season he has to fight against the impressive combination of Alvaro Negredo and Sergio Aguero. Aguero has been scoring goals for fun, while Negredo has been able to link up with him and also chip in with a few goals quite comfortably.
The 27-year-old would be a great signing for Arsenal since he has qualities almost similar to Giroud. Even though he cannot hold the ball as well as the Frenchman, Dzeko is more than capable of playing on his own up front.
The hindrance towards a possible deal might be City's reluctance to sell Dzeko to one of their main title rivals. Arsenal may also find the transfer fee excessive, as City are likely to demand in excess of £25 million.
