Asian Cup 2015 draw
Australia have been handed a tough draw for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup on home soil, with regional heavyweights South Korea, as well as Oman and Kuwait, to face the Socceroos in Group A.
Having been automatically seeded as hosts in Pot 1 alongside Iran, Japan and Uzbekistan, Ange Postecoglou's side had already avoided most of the danger teams, but there is no denying Hong Myung-Bo's Taegeuk Warriors were the toughest possible opponents in Pot 2, with any of Jordan, Saudi Arabia or United Arab Emirates preferable.
However, the hosts can still be confident of progressing to the quarter-finals, where they will face the winners or runners up of Group B, containing Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, China and North Korea.
The tournament will begin with a match between the Socceroos and Oman at Melbourne's AAMI Park on January 9.
Australia's next match is against Oman at ANZ Stadium, Sydney, on January 13, before a potential group decider against Korea Republic at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane four days later.
Group A: Australia, South Korea, Oman, Kuwait.
Group B: Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, China, North Korea.
Group C: Iran, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain.
Group D: Japan, Jordan, Iraq, Winner AFC Challenge Cup.
