Oman's Basheer suspended for Australia match
Basheer, who plays for UAE club Banyas, was booked in the ninth minute against Japan in Sunday's opening qualifier at the Saitama Stadium. He had picked up a yellow card against Thailand in Oman's last match of the previous round.
Oman team manager Mohammed al Alawi told Muscat Daily, It is a big loss for us. Eid al Farsi, who missed the Japan match due to suspension, is likely to replace Basheer in the midfield.
Farsi's availability apart, the Oman camp is looking forward to midfielder Juma Darwish returning to the starting XI after serving out a suspension.
Basheer said, I am disappointed that I won't get to play on Friday. But I wish the team good luck. I believe we have a good chance of defeating Australia at home.
Oman coach Paul Le Guen has another worry as experienced midfielder Ahmed Hadeed is racing against time to get fit for the crucial match. Hadeed had left the field in the 64th minute against Japan due to injury.
Meanwhile, Sayyid Khalid al Busaidy, the Oman Football Association's chairman, has called upon the players to recover from the drubbing in Japan. We should leave Sunday's defeat behind us and focus on our next game, he said.
