Chelsea’s projected lineup in Champions League thriller against Paris Saint-Germain
Chelsea’s projected lineup in Champions League thriller against Paris Saint-Germain

Chelsea, who lost against Crystal Palace on Sunday, travel to Paris to face Paris Saint-Germain at Parc des Princes in the Champions League quarter-final.

The two sides have met just once before in the Champions leauge, during Jose Mourinho’s first spell in charge at Stamford Bridge in 2004.

John Terry, who scored an unfortunate own goal on Sunday, is almost certain to start this match joined with BranislavIvanovic, GaryCahilland CesarAzpilicueta. All those three players were praised by José Mourinho after Sunday’s defeat:

"Ivanovic, Azpilicueta, Cahill, Terry - they perform in the sun, on small pitches, on big pitches, against aggressive teams, not aggressive teams, possession teams and not possession teams. They perform every game from day one to last day” per the BBC.

Oscar, Hazard and William should all find themselves in the starting XI, especially Hazard and Oscar are important players for Mourinho’s side. Oscar scored one goal and gave four assists during this Champions League campaign. Hazard, however, needs to find his goal-scoring boots again as he only scored one goal so far. William’s strength on the right and Hazard’s pace on the left will make it an unpleasant night for the PSG’s defence.

Chelsea’s major problem this season is the fact that their strikers are in an, to put it kindly, awful form. Samuel Eto’o is still injured so won’t be available for the match. Mourinho will have to do it with Fernando Torres, who has seldom impressed since his move to London.

Chelsea’s strikers are sub-standard, something which is completely different when you take a look at the opposition’s project lineup. Paris-Saint Germain can make an appeal to Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edison Cavani, those strikers are able to score a goal when it’s highly needed.

It will be a tough game for the Blues as PSG are unbeaten in 28 European home games, a record stretching back to 2006 per UEFA.

Chelsea XI: Cech: Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Azpilicueta; Lampard, Ramires; Willian, Oscar, Hazard; Torres.

PSG XI: Sirigu: Jallet, Alex, Silva, Maxwell; Verratti, Motta, Matuidi; Cavani, Ibrahimovic, Lavezzi.
