Chelsea Make £20 Million Bid To Bring Back Former Midfielder

In 2011 Chelsea acquired David Luiz from Portuguese club Benfica thanks to a cash plus player deal that saw Serbian midfielder Namanja Matic.

The 25-year-old midfielder may of at the time have been considered surplus to requirements but it is believed by Sky Sports that Jose Mourinho thinks the former Blue is the man to strengthen the midfield for the future.

With Benfica having crashed out of the UEFA Champions League, their financial outlook for the remainder of the season is not very positive and they are believed on the verge of being forced to sell Matic to maintain financial integrity for the remainder of their campaign.

Chelsea are reported to have made an offer of £20 million to see the player return to England and take a more prominent role at the club that once saw him as having no future in their ranks.

Matic was named last season's Primeira Liga Player of the Year and has thrived under the spotlight in Portugal, but is he the right player for Chelsea to bring in this January?

Only time will tell as the transfer window is looking to kick into full swing this week as the clock is ticking to get business done and dusted and return to the fight for silverware in the run-in.
