Chelsea reach verbal agreement for Diego Costa
Chelsea reach verbal agreement for Diego Costa

Jose Mourinho looks set to bolster the Chelsea attack this summer, with Chelsea having been reported on reaching a verbal agreement with Atletico Madrid for the transfer of Brazilian striker Diego Costa. (via the Daily Mail)

A neutral supporter has to feel for the rising Spanish side.  Seemingly every year they produce an incredible goal scoring striker, just to be snatched away by a bigger club.  Forlan, Aguero and Falcao have all parted the club in the past five years.

With the departure of Radamel Falcao this summer to Monaco, Diego Costa was thrust into the spotlight, and oh how he has shone.  Diego Costa is just three league goals behind Christiano Ronaldo with 19 goals in 21 games.  Incredibly impressive considering the difference in quality between the two sides.

Atletico has had a very impressive season thus far, sitting in third in La Liga.  Despite the clubs growth, it looks as tho their new striker sensation is set to leave Spain this summer.  With a host of teams scrambling for Diego Costa's signature, Chelsea seem to be in pole position to land the Brazilian.

Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United have all expressed interest and are willing to meet the £32 million buyout clause.  However, Chelsea have something that none of these three times have to offer-Belgian goalkeeper Thibault Courtois.

Courtois has been on loan at Atletico the past three years and the Spanish club is vying to keep the promising keeper in Spain.  Chelsea are definitely reluctant, but are in an awkward predicament.  Petr Chech is showing absolutely no signs of slowing down as one of the top keepers in the world, and Courtois wants a permanent home where he is guaranteed to start.

While nothing has been confirmed, it appears that Chelsea and Atletico Madrid have some sort of verbal agreement that would work in the best interests of both clubs, Atletico know that they will lose Diego Costa, all they can do now is play the clubs off on one another to make it a sweeter deal for them.
