Blow for Chelsea as transfer target says he is happy at Inter

Chelsea have been dealt a blow in their attempts to strengthen the squad in January. Inter Milan's Fredy Guarin, who has been on Chelsea's radar for the last few months, has rejected suggestions that he is set for transfer talks in January by confirming that he wants to remain with the Italian club. The 27-year-old will provide an experienced head to the Chelsea forward line-up that features youngsters like Eden Hazard and Oscar.

Guarin has been linked with a £ 15 million move to Chelsea in January, but he has stated that he is happy at Inter Milan. He is even thinking about signing an extension to his contract. According to the ESPN, he said:

"There is some movement, I can't deny that, but I don't know what will happen, my agent is dealing with it. I'm just thinking about Inter and I hope that they bear in mind that I want to stay here.

"I hope they keep what they have promised, which is that we will discuss a contract extension.

"I want to stay here, but if they feel they should sell me, then so be it."

Chelsea are trying to offset a couple from the current squad in order to make room for new signings. Kevin De Bruyne is expected to leave for one of the German clubs, and it could be on a permanent basis. The Belgian has found little first-team opportunities under Mourinho and he finds no shortage of interested parties from the Bundesliga, where he did extremely well while on loan at Werder Bremen last season.

Chelsea's attack has been lacking coherence and Mourinho is likely to see Guarin as a missing link. He is a playmaker capable of playing behind the striker in Chelsea's formation, although the club already have the number of players in this position.

Due to the lack of goals from striker, Chelsea have to rely heavily upon goals from across the pitch. The addition of Guarin, who has scored three and assisted four in 17 appearances, will certainly raise questions about the need for a player, whose position is more than adequately covered.

Inter Milan, meanwhile, are linked with Ezequiel Lavezzi, but they may not have the funds to sign him unless Guarin is sold.
