Chelsea head into their midweek clash with German side Schalke 04 on the back of a strong weekend victory over Cardiff City. Samuel Eto'o scored his first goal of his Blues career and also the first Premier League goal by a striker for the Blues.

However, despite many believing that the Cameroonian international would be set for a second run out after his weekend performance, Mourinho spoke in his pre-match press conference that his former Inter Milan charge could be rested due to still getting used to a new league:

"Samuel Eto'o needs time, he's played in Italy and Spain which are very different, but his game against Cardiff was very good."

The Portuguese's comments will make it appear as though he will pick between Fernando Torres and Demba Ba for their match in Germany after the Spaniard was declared back to fitness following a knee issue.

Torres is most likely expected to play as he has been strong this season so far despite not having scored a league goal and he will hope to pick up where he left his form when he picked up his injury.

Additionally Mourinho stated his intent to see his veteran defensive leader John Terry in the first team but is undecided on the rest of the defense other than the place of Ryan Bertrand in the void left by a still injured Ashley Cole, "John Terry will play, but I need to make a decision between David Luiz and Gary Cahill [at center back]."

Schalke will also be without several key players as both Jefferson Farfan and Klass-Jan Huntelaar are missing and much will be left to young Arsenal and Chelsea target Julian Draxler for the home side.

A win for Chelsea would see them draw level with Schalke at the top of group E and have them poised for a run to the knockout stage at the midpoint of the group stage.
