In order to take Egyptian-Portuguese relations to the next level, at least in terms of the field of sports, Egyptian Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Khaled Abdel Aziz recently met with the Portuguese ambassador to Egypt Madeleine Fischer and the head of the Portuguese Delegation to Egypt Salvador Pinto at the ministry’s headquarters.
During the meeting, the officials discussed a range of issues, including other topics related to culture, but sports had a significant position in the back and forth on Egyptian-Portuguese relations.
The officials discussed setting up future training camps for the Egyptian national teams in Portugal, particularly when the European continent is slated to host international championships, such as the 2017 IHF World Men’s Handball Championship, to be celebrated in France in January.
Abdel Aziz expressed in this regard that Egypt has sports establishments and a special weather and climate that enables the country to host training camps for the Portuguese teams.
The talks included creating a football tournament, for juniors under 18, between four teams, two from Egypt and two from Portugal, in Egypt.
Arrangements with the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will take place soon to set up a cooperation-protocol between both countries.
