Football governing body FIFA is set to allow decisions of the goal-line technology (GLT) to be shown to fans on big screens in stadiums and television.

Reversing its previous stance that referees may be undermined if the GLT results were revealed, FIFA said that the question of whether and how replays are shown on TV or on an LED screen in a stadium should be one of the first discussion points when starting the implementation of GLT in a competition, Sport24 reports.

In a document on the implementation of the technology, FIFA further said that it recommends involving the referees in the discussion, as the main objective of the technology is to support and protect the referee.

However, FIFA also said in the document that referees having doubts about the accuracy of the GLT in a stadium can decide up to 45 minutes before switching the system off, adding that if the technology fails one or more tests, the referee must reject the use of the GLT system for the relevant match.

Goal-line technology had divided meetings of football's rule-making panel for years until FIFA President Sepp Blatter reversed his opposition and it was officially sanctioned last July.

Domestic competitions are also racing to introduce technology, with the Premier League on course for systems to be installed by the new season in August, the report added. (ANI)
