FIFA boss Infantino gets support for World Cup expansion
"Some favour 40 teams, others 48," Infantino said after the meeting with representatives from 20 federations in Roissy near Paris.
Infantino wants the World Cup expanded from 32 teams from 2026 onwards. He initially proposed 40 teams and then spoke of 48 teams, of which some would be engaged in playoffs before continuing with 32 teams.
A decision by the FIFA Council is set for January 2017.
Infantino also rejected a new discussion on controversial 2022 World Cup hosts Qatar; and said that Qatar and 2018 hosts Russia have a chance to present themselves os hospitable hosts.
"I see a chance to open parts of the world through football," he said.
Wednesday's meeting was part of an ongoing FIFA reform process, and further such meetings with federations are planned in Singapore, Miami, Doha, Addis Ababa and London.
