Ghana have eliminated the United States in both of the previous World Cups in 2006 and 2010 and the USMNT are looking to get one over on their rivals for a change this summer.
With the youngest average age in the tournament, Ghana have much fresh talent but their core of Sulley Muntari, Kevin-Prince Boateng and Asamoah Gyan down the middle of the attack remains, as does Andre Ayew on the wing.
The USA have made multiple changes under Jurgen Klinsmann, the most noted the exclusion of Landon Donovan from the World Cup roster all together.
It is time for the likes of Clint Dempsey and Jozy Altidore to truly standup and be counted for the USMNT and the likes of Graham Zusi and Michael Bradley need to make their presence felt in the midfield.
The first half is likely to be cagey as they feel one another out knowing that it is a must win match because Germany and Portugal are the next two and a loss in their easiest game (on paper) will not be tolerated or easily overcame.
Both sides have weapons to get the job done and the USA continue to build in confidence despite Klinsmann claiming that they cannot get out of the group stages or win the world cup, the US is never a country not to dream big.
If no goals come from the first half, it is expected that the game will become much more open as both know they must win and the fear of loss will have to be thrown to the wind if either wants to make the break through.
Ghana Starting XI: Dauda: Afful, Mensah, Boye, Asamoah; Rabiu, Muntari; Atsu, Boateng, Ayew; Gyan.
USMNT Starting XI: Howard: Johnson, Cameron, Besler, Beasley; Zusi, Jones, Bradley, Davis; Dempsey; Altidore.
