Formula One ace Lewis Hamilton has said that he would have loved to race against racing legends Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost, Nigel Mansell and Nelson Piquet in the golden era of F1 in the late 1980s.

According to the Mirror, Hamilton, who drove Senna's old McLaren MP4/4 around the National Circuit at Silverstone last year, is a man out of his time and a racer who would have revelled in the battles of Senna's era.

According to Hamilton, if he had been given a choice to drive in another time period, he would have chosen the era of Senna, although he added that he felt very unsafe and exposed while driving the legend's car, which had a gearstick.

Praising Senna, Hamilton said that he was specially impressed by Senna's performance in a race in Monaco, where the driving legend single-handedly oversteered and shifted gears in his cars most of the time.

Indicating that the current rules are more favourable to players than those in Senna's era, the Mercedes ace said that it is still dangerous to be on the edge of a precipice while driving a qualifying lap.

Hamilton cited the example of Red Bulls' Sebastian Vettel, adding that Vettel always runs wide over the astroturf and the kerb, which would have been penalized during Senna's time.

According to Hamilton, people like Senna would build up to the limit and be battling with the limit rather than going over the limit, which he added, respected more than the current techniques used by today's crop of racers. (ANI)
