Tennis ace Andy Murray has expressed his gratitude towards Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who lent his support while the Scot battled Novak Djokovic at Flushing Meadows to clinch the U.S. Open 2012.

Ferguson, who is famous for his 'hairdryer' rollickings for his superstar players at the Old Trafford, kept signaling to Murray to keep calm during the match.

"I was looking at the guys in the box because I needed to get myself pumped up in the fifth set and that helped me," the Daily Mirror quoted Murray, as saying.

"It was great to have someone like Sir Alex around and get to chat to him. It was pretty cool. That is always going to inspire you. All of the other guys spoke to him and said he was really good fun and was very happy for me," he added.

Fergie also claimed that he was proud of what Murray had achieved, adding that watching the U.S. Open was much more nerve-wracking than watching a Premier League match.

"I'm really proud for the boy. That was a real test of a champion for me," Fergie said.

"I love watching tennis and it was more nerve-wracking than a Premier League match. I'm usually in control of my own -situation, but I wasn't in control here," he added. (ANI)
