Januzaj makes preliminary Belgium World Cup team
England, Belgium, Albania, Kosovo, Servia or Turkey? Adnan Januzaj was pondering on this question for quite some time, but last week the Manchester United's youngster winger opted to defend the colors of another Red Devils side, the Belgium national team.
Januzaj, who has played 24 matches in the current Premier League season scoring four times and assisting another four, has become one of the biggest surprises in the national tournament.
His quick left foot, speed and accuracy in passes as well as the injury of Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke have granted Januzaj a place in the preliminary World Cup team from Belgium, according to The Guardian.
"I will include him in the list of 30 pre-selected players for the World Cup and he will be one of the 26 or 27 players who take part in training in Genk and then in Sweden," said Belgium manager Marc Wilmots.
And Wilmots continued: "I prefer to keep the numbers down but Januzaj will be there."
The 19-year-old will be available in two friendlies for the Red Devils, one against Luxembourg at home in Genk on May 26th and another match versus Sweden in Stockholm on June 1st.
As Wilmots said in his most recent press conference, Januzaj's chance of going to Brazil may not be huge. But in case the winger gets a golden ticket and sees his name on the final list on June 2nd, he and Belgium will face off against Argelia, Russia and South Korea in the group stage starting on June 17, 2014.
