Luiz Gustavo: I'd like to play for Arsenal
Away on international duty at the moment, Gustavo looks set to determine his future this week.
According to Sky Sports, Gustavo’s agent, Roger Wittman, said, “Luiz will make a statement on his future on Thursday.”
Though the Brazilian certainly played a role in Bayern Munich's treble success last season, Guardiola is willing to offload the player for the right price. Several top teams throughout world football are in need of a a player like Gustavo, with Arsenal leading the list. Mikel Arteta has filled the holding role for Arsene Wenger's midfield since the departure of Alex Song, but the Spaniard is much more of an attacking player. Gustavo could fill the void Song left when he moved to Barcelona last season.
With the the World Cup in Brazil just under a year away, Gustavo needs first team football in order to remain in contention for a spot in the hosts' squad. Though Luiz Scolari trusted Gustavo throughout the Confederations Cup this summer, he will require all of his players to be match fit and sharp ahead of the world's biggest tournament.
Gustavo spoke to the press in Switzerland this morning ahead of Brazil's friendly against Switzerland, hinting that a move to Arsenal would definitely suit him.
"My contract with Bayern runs until 2015 but it is very important that I play first-team football to keep getting called up for Brazil.
"I am in a very delicate situation at Bayern and this needs sorting out. I have personal and professional reasons to move.
"I have heard about the Arsenal interest. It's a big club we're talking about here so of course I'd like to play for them." (via the Daily Mail)
