Manchester City heads North on Wednesday in the Capital One Cup to take on Newcastle United on the back of both clubs having suffered disheartening 2-1 defeats over the weekend.

Newcastle failed to win yet another meeting with Sunderland as the Black Cats look to have clawed their way halfway out of the Premier League drop zone, while City continue to struggle in the League as well after a tough away loss to Chelsea.

City manager Manuel Pellegrini is likely to make several changes to his side that were defeated at Stamford Bridge as Micah Richards, Aleksandar Kolarov and Vincent Kompany could all return to the back line, while Jack Rodwell, James Milner, Stevan Jovetic and Alvaro Negredo could make their way back into the front six.

Sergio Aguero could be fit and ready, but might be rested while Edin Dzeko also has a shot at an appearance as he has struggled to hold a first team place since the early part of the season.

Samir Nasri has been bright and could be the spark that helps the Citizens return to form against the Magpies whom they have already defeated in the League this season and will hope to find their way through once more in the Cup.

City and Newcastle are both in need of a boost and both sides are expected to come out looking for the win at St. James' Park on Wednesday.
