Man Utd and Chelsea in battle for PSG's Cavani
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United and Chelsea target Edinson Cavani's agent is currently in London discussing the future of his star asset. The Uruguayan international made a move from Napoli to Paris St-Germain in the summer but he's already been linked with a move away from Paris if reports are anything to go by.
The French giants paid a whopping £54million for Cavani in the summer and they'll certainly want to get their money back if they do end up selling one of their top attackers in the summer. Cavani has been excellent during his time in France, scoring 20 goals in 29 appearances for the mega-rich club. A thigh injury is currently keeping him sidelined, and he could miss the French side's Champions League clash with Bayer Leverkusen.
A move for Cavani just one year after he left Napoli seems quite unbelievable at first glance. The player, however, is thought to be unhappy with his situation at PSG because he's been forced to play a wider role with Zlatan Ibrahimovic featuring as the club's central figure. Manchester United, Chelsea, and even Arsenal are all thought to be interested in the striker, but Chelsea remain probably favorites to land the Uruguayan if he does indeed end up leaving Paris.
With Samuel Eto'o, Fernando Torres, and Demba Ba all underperforming for Jose Mourinho's side, the Portuguese tactician will likely look to spend big this summer to complete the attack for his team. He's already got a fantastic midfield in Oscar, Eden Hazard, Willian, Nemanja Matic, Ramires and others, but tidying up his front-line will certainly be on his mind this summer when the transfer window opens. There are only a few clubs that are able to spend the kind of money that Cavani's fee and wages will demand, and Chelsea have to be done of them.
A move to Manchester United could also potentially materialize, but it all depends on what happens this summer. Robin Van Persie has been linked with a shock return to Arsenal, though many don't see it happening. Wayne Rooney could also be on his way out of Old Trafford with Chelsea the destination according to various rumors. David Moyes will have to wait and see if he'll be able to afford a player like Cavani.
Meanwhile at Arsenal, the search continues for another striker. The likelihood of Arsene Wenger going for Cavani is slim to none, though. Wenger has shown this season that he has faith in Olivier Giroud, and if anything would like to bring in another striker that can either play alongside him or provide more depth. A player like Cavani would expectedly play every game for any team he goes to. The price tag is also massive and many don't see Wenger breaking the bank so quickly after spending £42.5million on Mesut Ozil over the summer.
