Since joining Manchester United in 2006 from Russian Premier League team Spartak Moscow, Nemanja Vidic has been Mr Dependable. The monstrous Serb has chalked up a long list of individual awards, including the Premier League's Player of the Season on two occasions and he is a five time Premier League winner; However it appears as though he has chosen not to renew his deal at Manchester United, opting for a move away from the North of England at the end of the season.

It has been speculated that the Champions League winner has agreed to join Inter Milan of the Serie A. Despite being past his best, Vidic is still a respected member of the Manchester United squad, and his presence will be missed for sure. Here, I take a look at some viable replacements who will fill Nemanja Vidic's void when he moves elsewhere come summer.

Dejan Lovren

Southampton's defence this season has been rock solid. For ten games or so they had the most sturdy defence in the Premier League, though, their season started to tail off as draws and losses began to accumulate. Dejan Lovren, however, has been one of their underrated stars this season. He has been physically dominant in all aspects and has now gained that all important experience that will let him succeed further in the Premier League.

The former Olympique Lyonnais man is quickly entering his peak and he could be picked up from Southampton for a price of £10.5m, per Transfermarkt. Despite being a fan favourite at Southampton, Dejan Lovren could be lured away for the right price.

Joel Veltman

Joel Veltman is a different kind of Centre-back than the ones I have suggested in the previous slide. He is Dutch 22 year old who plies his trade in the Eredivisie for Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam. He is a technical centre-back likened to Jan Verthonghen at Tottenham who likes to play the ball out from the back. Veltman has played a vital role in Ajax's superb defence this season, averaging more than two tackles per game.

However, Veltman is quite error-prone and has completed some costly mistakes this season. One of his biggest ones came against FC Barcelona where he hacked down Neymar in the penalty area - Xavi socred the resulting penalty. If Manchester United purchase Veltman for a reasonable price and if he minimizes his errors then he could be the future of defending.

Eliaquim Mangala

Eliaquim Mangala is a 23 year old French defender playing for FC Porto in the Portuguese Liga. He and his Porto colleague Fernando Reges nearly completed a move to the blue side of Manchester late in January, however, Porto were asking more than what Manchester City were willing to pay. He is superb physically and mixes his jaw dropping pace with technical prowess which has seen him collect plaudits across Europe. He stands at a more than sturdy 6 foot 2 inches and will be more than stable to deal with any tussle he may encounter in the Premier League. He also possess a massive leap.

Per Telegraph Sport, Manchester United sent one of their leading scouts to observe Mangala's performance in Porto's victory over Gil Vincente over the weekend. Manchester United will definitely face fierce competition from Manchester City and Chelsea when bidding for Mangala but he could prove to be a fantastic coup for them.

Jonathan Tah

Hamburger SV are having their worst season in recent times: they're second bottom in the Bundesliga, on their third manager and their fans have staged violent protests outside of the Imtech Arena. The only upside of their season is the emergence of 17 year old Jonathan Tah. Tah is a monster physically, he stands at 6'4" and weighs 198 pounds. He's also good in the air and has super composure for a footballer as young as 17.

Manchester United will be wary of this purchase because Tah's release clause is quite high at €25m and the powerful German may not be an instant success. Something that cannot be questioned, however, is Tah's irresistible potential.
