Mata: De Gea convinced me to quit Chelsea for Man Utd
Juan Mata's move to Manchester United still remains the biggest deal of the 2014 Premier League winter transfer window. Having already made an impact for his new side with an assist in each of his first two appearances for the Red Devils, Mata is believed to be a major part of the club fighting for a chance to get back to the top four before the end of the campaign.
However, Mata revealed in an interview with TalkSPORT that his decision to leave Chelsea and move to Manchester United was partially affected by the efforts of his Spanish National teammate David De Gea:
“David De Gea was important. He was texting me and calling me and wanted me to come here. Finally I’m here and I’m glad to be with him. He’s a very good guy.”
The 25-year-old midfielder is once again expected to make a difference for David Moyes side as United face off against Fulham on Sunday in what is the first of many must win fixtures before the end of the season.
With the club sitting frustratingly in seventh place in the table and seven points back from fourth place and any hope of European action next season rest on their ability to win out the remainder of their campaign.
