How to watch the Premier League on TV in UAE
For the third time in seven years a third different provider will be beaming the league’s live matches to supporters around the region. It’s now the responsibility of Qatar-based Al Jazeera Sport to make sure the many Middle East football addicts get their fix this season.
So, with the action just two days away - the Al Jazeera cameras will be fixed on Anfield on Saturday for the league’s opening game between Liverpool and Stoke and banned bad boy Luis Suarez in the stands - what do you have to do to make sure you get to see this season’s action?
7DAYS contacted the two UAE telecom providers, etisalat and du to find out how to subscribe to the footy action and here’s what they were told:
>> If you already have the Al Jazeera Sport package but are looking for Premier League action with English commentary you ‘simply’ need to call du customer care on 04 390 5555, quote your landline number or du account number and ask for the service.
>> We were told that the service will be activated for the start of the season and the monthly charge will be Dhs70. For that, viewers will not only get the Premier League in English and Arabic, but also coverage of the Champions League and all the other top leagues in Europe.
>> The package also includes the other sporting action currently available to Al Jazeera Sport subscribers, including tennis and the ongoing World Athletics Championships.
>> If you receive TV channels through the eLife offering simply call up etisalat and request the six new channels to be added to your existing package.
>> If you are in an etisalat area but don’t get your TV channels through eLife then you need to buy an Al Jazeera Sport smart card for the equivalent of Dhs52.5 per month plus a one-off fee of Dhs36 for new subscribers for the card. If you already have an Al Jazeera Sport smart card, you can upgrade to the new Premier League package for Dhs28 per month.
>> To buy the smart card or to upgrade your current smart card you need to call one of these dealers in the UAE. Abu Dhabi Media, 02 643 3003; Starmax Trading (Al Talfaza), 04 221 8662; IMS, 04 359 2323; Satellite World, 03 751 5212; Wafa Technical, 02 633 4211.
