Spanish giants Real Madrid qualified for the semi-finals of the Hamdan Bin Mohammad Under-18 International Football Tournament with a whopping 8-0 win over Al Wasl, while Dubai Club held Al Nasr 2-2 on the third day at the Dubai Police Officers Club on Sunday.
After opening with a 2-1 win against Al Nasr, Real Madrid showed no mercy to Al Wasl. They led 2-0 at half-time and added another six goals in the second half.
After two rounds of Group A matches, the Spaniards are at the top with six points, while Dubai Club are second with four, Al Nasr have one and Al Wasl none.
Jose Manuel Hernando and Nestor Gabriel Sanchez scored a brace apiece in the Real Madrid victory, while man-of-the-match Alvaro Fidalgo Fernandez, Inaki Dorado Fernandez, Gonzalo Exposito Verdejo and Estanislao Buces Lopez got one each.
“This is a good win and I am glad that we have started showing our true form,” Real coach Ruben De La Red told Gulf News.
“While results are important for us, we are also very keen to ensure our players continue their learning process. We keep making mistakes, but our players did well to rectify them. Such an experience will help the evolution of our players.”
Meanwhile, Dubai Club fought back from a two-goal deficit to hold nine-man Al Nasr.
Adnan Al Beloushi and Mohammad Ebrahim gave Al Nasr a comfortable cushion at half-time, but Seef Mohammad and Mubarak Al Badwawi were shown red cards and Dubai took advantage with goals from Arif Mohammad Al Muhairi and Hamed Jawad Sediq.
The tournament is organised by Dubai Sports Council (DSC) and held under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of DSC.
