UAE sports commentators quit Qatar-based beIN Sports
The resignations were reportedly related to the current political crisis between the UAE and Qatar and which led Abu Dhabi to recall its ambassador from Doha.
However, neither Faris nor Ali mentioned on their Twitter accounts the reasons for their resignations.
“Today, I ended my cooperation with BeIn Sports channels,” Faris posted on the microblog. “I thank all those in charge of the channels as well as all the colleagues and brothers who graciously welcomed me and offered me their compassion and appreciation.”
Faris also thanked Nasser Al Khelaifi, the director of beIN Sports and president of French football club Paris Saint-Germain and other people who have contributed to the success of his time at the pan-Arab sports channel, hugely popular in the Arab world for broadcasting mainly the Spanish Liga and the British Premier matches.
In his tributes, Ali was equally eloquent. “10 years of genuine professional work shall remain in my heart forever,” Ali posted on Twitter. “Goodbye to all colleagues in BeIn Sports and my highest gratitude to the true friend Nasser Al Khelaifi,” he said.
