UAE Super Cup confirmed for Saturday

Gulf Cup hosts Kuwait announced last week that the biennial eight-nation tournament, due to be held from December 22 to January 4, would be postponed for a year to complete necessary stadium maintenance. This meant GCC domestic leagues no longer had to start the 2015/16 season early and take a month-long winter break.
As a result, the UAE domestic football season had been expected to start with the Super Cup on a revised date in mid-September as opposed to mid-August. But pressure from inside Kuwait could now see the Gulf Cup played on the original dates, enabling GCC domestic leagues to stick with their initial schedules.
There has been no confirmation of Kuwait’s decision to reverse their postponement, but the UAE Pro League Committee (PLC) announced plans on Tuesday for Saturday’s Super Cup, suggesting no change. The PLC has yet to announce if the 14-team Arabian Gulf League will start as initially planned on August 19, or if the Arabian Gulf League Cup will follow on August 27.
The Super Cup will be played between league champions Al Ain and President’s Cup winners Al Nasr at Al Jazira’s Mohammad Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Saturday from 7.40pm.
