Wawrinka sets up all-Swiss final with Federer at Monte Carlo Masters
Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka has set up all-Swiss final meeting at the Monte Carlo Masters with Roger Federer after muscling his way past Spaniard David Ferrer in the semi-finals on Saturday.
World number three Wawrinka beat Ferrer 6-1, 7-6 (7/3) after the Spanish star had knocked out eight-time champion compatriot Rafael Nadal.
According to sport24, Wawrinka will be bidding for his first trophy at the Masters 1000 level after winning both Chennai and Melbourne in January following his defeat in the Rome Masters final to Novak Djokovic in 2008 and loss to Nadal in a Madrid Masters title bid last May.
The report mentioned that the win marked the 100th for Wawrinka in a Masters 1000 and left him with a 15-6 Monte Carlo record from seven appearances.
Meanwhile, Djokovic admitted he has no idea when he will play again after a right wrist injury contributed to his 7-5, 6-2 Monte Carlo Masters semi- final loss to Federer on Saturday. (ANI)
