Wilshere excited by potential big-name signings at Arsenal
Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has revealed his excitement at the potential arrival of big-name signings at the Emirates Stadium.
The likes of Gonzalo Higuain and Wayne Rooney have been strongly linked, while the Gunners have already seen a £35 million bid for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez turned down.
And Wilshere, who is with the rest of the Gunners squad on a pre-season tour of Asia, insists that the training ground has been abuzz with talk of the potential deals, insisting that they would provide a boost for the north London club in their quest for silverware.
"Everyone at the training ground has been talking about big-name signings," he told reporters. "It would give us all such a massive lift. Not just the players but the staff and everybody connected to Arsenal."
Wilshere believes that the changes made by Arsenal's top-four rivals, with Chelsea, Manchester City and United all appointing new managers this summer, could work in the Gunners' favour and has challenged his team-mates to take their form from the back-end of last season into the new campaign.
"Everything has changed at the other top-four clubs," he added. "Alex Ferguson has gone, Chelsea and City have new managers so we have to set our targets high.
"We showed how good we can be during the run-in last season - we had our destiny put in front of us. We had to win those games to finish in the top four and we stood up to the challenge.
"Now the goal is to play with that kind of consistency all season. If we can, we can definitely win something."
