World Cup 2014: Biggest show on earth begins today
When Brazil were declared hosts of the 2014 World Cup way back in 2007, a lot of people must have made plans then, well in advance, to attend the event.
The reason being it’s a lovely holiday destination. The country’s long stretches of beaches are inviting, not to mention the sun, sand, music and Latino dances which add spice to an otherwise mundane life. In simple words, it’s the ideal place to let your hair down and have a good time.
Add the World Cup to it and you have the cherry on the cake.
While tourists will have a ball, it will be a different ball game for the 32 countries vying against one another over the next month to get their hands on the Fifa Cup.
Hosts Brazil kick-off the World Cup campaign against Croatia in a few hours from now, at the stroke of midnight to be precise.
Being the hosts Brazil go in as favourites to win their sixth World Cup. In Felipe Scolari they have one of the finest coach.
The ‘Big Phil’ is known to get the best out of his wards. He did it in 2002 with Ronaldo, Rivaldo and Ronaldinho.
This time the three Rs are missing but in Neymar, Fred and Hulk he has a potential demolition squad to destroy his opponents.
But will the pressure of playing at home in front of 200 million fans get to them? Only time will tell.
