Costa Rica v England: Predicted lineups
World Cup 2014: Costa Rica v England Preview and Projected Lineups
Much like Spain before them, England will be looking to earn a piece of consolation in their last group stage game knowing that they will be headed home far too early than was expected of them.
The Three Lions have had a terrible World Cup performance and having looked like they would take three points against Italy and then failing to even get a draw it seems that the wind was quickly dumped from their sails.
On the other hand, little Costa Rica have came out as one of the best surprise packages of the World Cup thus far. Having refused to see themselves as inferior to all three of the major nations in their group, the Costa Ricans have excelled where many had them destined to fail.
Although Costa Rica are through and the temptation to rest players will be there, it is not expected to happen as manager Jorge Luis Pinto will likely want to go for a draw at the least to ensure they top Group C and avoid a clash with Colombia right off the start of the knockout stages.
England manager Roy Hodgson is believed set to name several more fringe players in the first team that have not featured in the cut thus far to give them some experience. In the case of Spain if could be just the change that sees England put three points on the board before they make their exit.
Costa Rica Starting XI: Navas: Gamboa, Duarte, Gonzalez, Umana, Diaz; Ruiz, Borges, Tejeda, Bolanos; Campbell.
England Starting XI: Foster: Jones, Smalling, Cahill, Shaw; Lampard, Wilshere; Milner, Barkley, Lallana; Sturridge.
