Jimenez hints at exit

Luis Jimenez helped Al Ahli to claim domestic silverware with victory in the Etisalat Cup, and then revealed he's considering leaving the Rashid Stadium this summer.

The 27-year-old scored the first penalty in the shootout win over Al Shabab, before revealing he's considering a move back to Italy, where he previously spent nine years with the likes of Internazionale and Lazio.

"I have three offers from Italy, but I don't know, I need to speak to the club. I want to rest here, I think they want to rest, but in football you never know, so now in the next week I'll speak with the club."

The Chilean international refused to reveal which clubs had expressed an interest in his services, merely stating that they were all Serie A teams.

"I played nine years there, I played good teams, I played good for the clubs, for me this is good and good for my career. But I signed for four years, so I repeat, I want to speak with the club (Ahli) to understand what they want to do," he said.

Jimenez had earlier played a starring role as Quique Sanchez Flores' men overcame stiff challenge from Shabab via a penalty shootout, after an energy-sapping 120 minutes of regulation play on a scorching Dubai night.

Temperatures reached 34 degrees Celsius during the game, something Shabab captain Adel Al Blooshi said shouldn't be allowed to happen.

"The season is very long here and we know this, it's discussed all the time. As players we need the season to be shorter so we have more time to relax and play in other games. If you look at Shabab, we play in many games this year, league, Etisalat Cup, so we're really exhausted."

Al Blooshi also claimed the searing heat affected the quality of the game, particularly in extra time. While normal time had been a lively affair, many players visibly tired in the 30 minute period in extra time, something Al Blooshi directly attributed to the conditions at Maktoum Stadium.

"The heat was crazy in the two halves during 90 minutes, so imagine we played extra time and 30 minutes more. Many players had cramp and suffered during the game, and it affected the quality of the game," he said.

The arid Dubai night looked to have gotten the better of Shabab star man Jociel after the right winger left Al Maktoum Stadium in an ambulance with apparent breathing difficulties.

While the 30-year-old lasted the 120 minutes of the Etisalat Cup final, he took ill in the dressing room afterwards and was stretchered to the waiting ambulance with an oxegen mask aiding his breathing.
