Manchester City target Inter's Sneijder
Manchester City could be about to make a move for Inter Milan midfielder – and long-term Manchester United target – Wesley Sneijder after they failed in their attempt to sign Eden Hazard, according to a report in the Italian media.
Hazard’s much anticipated decision on where he would be moving to was revealed on Monday and the Lille superstar opted for Chelsea over City or United.
And according to Italian newspaper Gazetta dello Sport, City have turned their attentions to Sneijder after missing out on their number one target, and are willing to match Inter’s asking price for the Dutch playmaker.
City had held talks with the Serie A giants in the past over a possible move for the 27-year-old, but the two parties could not agree terms.
However, it appears the Premier League champions could be set to reignite their interest this summer, which could be a major blow to bitter rivals United, who were close to signing Sneijder last summer before talks stalled over a fee for the midfielder.
Inter were determined to hold onto Sneijder last year, such was his importance to the team, but a poor season from the San Siro club meant they did not qualify for the Champions League and radical changes are expected.
On a personal level, Sneijder did not enjoy the best of seasons and if Inter’s asking price is met, he could make a move to the Premier League this summer, but it seems the blue half of Manchester is now a more likely destination.
