Netanyahu never had any goal of breaking HAMAS . He would have sent the army in if that was his intietnon. In fact, Israel has a collective leadership at this point and the decision would not been his alone to make in any event. Barak and Lieberman have great influence as well. The goal was to get HAMAS to stop shooting and to take responsibilty for everything that takes place in their territory. HAMAS was already asking for a cease-fire after the 2nd or 3rd day so it seems they didn't view the war as any great advantage for them.

Drones do not operate auulonmotsoy. They are piloted by someone at an airbase with a joystick type device. There is a human operator at all times flying them through the use of a camera system mounted to the drone that sends video back to the pilot. The pilot also has fire control for those drones armed with missles and such. I think Sir John is right, having drones armed with Hellfire missles patroling overhead 24/7 ready to attack spotted rocket encampments would be a possible game changer. They would not be fullproof though and Irondome would still be required, especially if they lit up several missle batteries at once.
