Bahraini Sues Queen Elizabeth II

A Bahraini citizen has filed a lawsuit against Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II for insulting “the symbols of the Kingdom of Bahrain,” Bahraini newspaper Al Waqt reported.

According to the report, the man was left angered when Britain’s ambassador to Bahrain Jamie Bowden allegedly met with members of the Al Wefaq National Islamic Society. Al Wefaq is the largest Shia Islamist opposition bloc in Bahrain’s legislature. Among Al Wefaq’s most controversial actions are its pushes for stricter clothing guidelines for University of Bahrain students and calls to segregate South Asian migrant workers. The party has also called for a constitutional monarchy.

The citizen is reportedly suing the Queen for 120 million Bahraini Dinars ($318.27 million), and intends to distribute the sum between himself, his family, Bahrain’s royal family, the government of Bahrain and the people of Bahrain—though the report did not specify which people.....
