Israel launched a series of air attaks on the Gaza Strip late Thursday, killing at least one Palestinian and injuring another, medical workers and Hamas said. According to Reuters, the Israeli army said it had launched four strikes after a dozen mortar bombs and a rocket fired from the Palestinian territory struck the south ofIsrael, where no injuries were reported.
Blasts rocked Gaza City, Khan Younis and Rafah.
The Palestinian died in an Israeli raid on a tunnel beneath Gaza's border with Egypt, and several other people were feared trapped inside the ruins, medics said. An Israeli military spokeswoman said Israel had targeted a weapons factory in Gaza City and three tunnels.
Hamas said an Israeli warplane bombed a building in Gaza City that witnesses said appeared to belong to the Islamic Jihad militant group.
Israel also fired missiles at targets in Khan Younis, a town in southern Gaza. One of them struck an uninhabited area near a school, causing no injury, witnesses and medics said. Another air strike targeted a zone in southern Gaza.
