An official at Iraq's election commission said on Sunday the recount of the Baghdad vote has not changed the result of the March 7 parliamentary election in which a secular candidate narrowly won over the Shiite prime minister. According to the AP, Qassim al-Abboudi stated the results of the recount "are compatible" with the original count of the March 7 vote.
Prime minister Nouri al-Maliki won the Baghdad vote but alleged fraud and demanded a recount.
All in all, the secularist Eyad Allawi's Iraqiya bloc, supported heavily by Iraq's minority Sunnis, won 91 seats, two more compared to the State of Law coalition led by Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki with 89.
