Dubai Customs signs MOU with TNT for using B2G channel

Dubai Customs and TNT Express signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 for using a Business To Government (B2G) channel.
As per the MOU, TNT, the global logistics and transportation solutions provider, can process customs declarations and complete its transactions through B2G channel after structuring and linking its internal IT systems electronically with Mirsal 2 system. This entails that once TNT enters the declarations into its internal systems, they will be automatically transferred to Mirsal 2.
Mr. Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Executive Director of Client Management Division signed the MOU on behalf of Dubai Customs whereas Mr. Iyad Moussa, Operations Director UAE signed the MOU on behalf of TNT.
Mr. Musabih said that the MOU sets up the framework of bilateral cooperation between Dubai Customs and TNT, allowing the company to submit their customs declarations through B2G channel which introduces several benefits and advantages; including time, effort and costs saving as well as confidentiality and protection of information.
Mr. Musabih pointed out that B2G is considered an application within Mirsal 2 system which was developed and launched by Customs last March. It is designed to help companies which have large number of customs transactions complete these procedures swiftly.
“Launching B2G initiative comes as part of the Department’s continuous development of the e-services provided to the clients and in line with the corporate directives towards completing customs declarations electronically.” He said.
Mr.Iyad commended the excellent services and constant improvements that Dubai Customs provides to its clients and its continuous cooperation with them throughout the year. He said: “As part of our continual commitment to operational excellence and maintaining the highest level of service, we are delighted to sign this MOU with Dubai Customs which will translate into faster clearance procedures for our clients and a more secure, confidential process via E-signature and digital certificates. During the trial period, the number of cargo shipments cleared has doubled, and we’re certain that this channel will continue to provide value for our customers.
“Because of Dubai’s strategic location and the large volume of TNT business through this regional hub, the new cargo E-system initiated by Customs in cooperation with the clients will streamline our air freight business in the region” added Mr. Iyad.
Both Dubai Customs and the clients can enjoy numerous benefits resulting from B2G implementation including reducing human errors, automating mutual procedures with Dubai Customs, clearing customs declarations quickly, eliminating the need of frequent visits to Customs counters so as to submit customs declarations, utmost use of time for the main business tasks, reducing costs of customs declarations, introducing a paperless and round-the-clock service, receiving instant notifications about the status of the customs declarations and better employment of HR by making use of counters’ staff in performing other tasks.
