DUBAL inducted into 2011 Palladium Hall of Fame

Dubai Aluminium Company Limited (DUBAL), the entirely state-owned enterprise that owns and operates one of the world’s largest primary aluminium smelters, has been inducted into the 2011 Palladium Balanced Scorecard Hall of Fame for Executing Strategy. The Hall of Fame honours those organisations that have achieved an execution premium with break-through results through the use of Kaplan-Norton Balanced Scorecard (BSC), the world’s pre-eminent strategy management framework.
DUBAL is the first aluminium smelter in the world and the first manufacturing company in the UAE to receive this honour.
The BSC concept was introduced at DUBAL in 2005, and has since been used as a key tool for the company’s strategy execution and reporting, with further developments and ongoing refinements as deemed appropriate. Using the BSC framework, DUBAL has not only developed into a strategy-focused organization, but also has been converted its vision of becoming one of the top five players in the global aluminium industry by the year 2015 into reality.
By winning this honour, DUBAL has proved its strategy executive capabilities and is proud to be one of the most successful industrial flagship companies in Dubai and the UAE.
Clearly delighted at the honour, Abdulla J M Kalban, President & CEO says, “Being inducted into the Hall of Fame is a great accomplishment for DUBAL, especially as we were chosen for amid a strong pool of ‘for-profit’ companies from Europe, Middle East and Africa. This milestone achievement is also a tribute to the efforts of our employees in executing DUBAL’s strategic initiatives efficiently, which in turn have yielded break-through results over the years.”
Through application of the BSC framework, DUBAL has successfully mobilized change through executive leadership, translated strategies into operational terms, and aligned the organization around its strategy — all of which helped motivate its employees, who drive the performance and behaviour of the organization, Kalban explains.
He adds that since the inception of BSC, DUBAL has gradually established a BSC culture in the organization by cascading corporate strategy to business units and people.
Kalban concludes by saying, “I am confident that, under the able leadership of our DUBAL Board of Directors under the Chairmanship of H H Shaikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, DUBAL will continue to use the BSC framework to formulate and execute strategy successfully for years to come, thereby consistently achieving our corporate vision.”
DUBAL’s Dirk Storm, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and Amir Al Janahi, Corporate Controller represented the company at the dedicated 2011 Palladium Balanced Scorecard Hall of Fame induction ceremony that took place in London, England, on Wednesday 8 June 2011.
