A new poll has shown that American voters believe that 9/11 terror attacks had a far greater effect on the United States than the Vietnam War, former US President John F. Kennedy's assassination, the collapse of communism and the Watergate scandal.
A Fox News poll listed five major events that occurred in the US in the past 50 years and surveyed which event had a profound effect on the country.
The poll showed that 55 percent of respondents said the 2001 terrorist attacks had most profound effect on the US.
At least 18 percent said Vietnam War made most impact, as compared to 8 percent voters who said Kennedy assassination and the collapse of communism had far-reaching consequences, and 2 percent who said Watergate scandal had tremendous effect.
The poll found 75 percent respondents predicted that another attack is 'somewhat likely' to take place in future "causing large numbers of American lives to be lost".
About 24 percent of voters think it is "very likely" that a major attack will take place soon.
However, 54 percent voters said the United States is safer today than it was before the September 11 attacks.
About 21 percent voters said the US is safer due to former Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden's death but 19 percent were opposed to the view.
About 58 percent voters thought Bin Laden's death has not made much of a difference to the US security situation.
The Fox News poll surveyed 911 randomly chosen registered US voters nationwide, and was conducted between August 29 and 31. (ANI)
