Police have arrested a driver after he killed one person and injured three others in a hit-and-run incident on Mohammad Bin Zayed Road, Dubai Police said on Sunday.
Major General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs of Dubai Police, said the incident happened on Friday when the driver of a cement mixer vehicle ran over a group of men who were walking on the hard shoulder in Al Qusais area.
The police were alerted about the run-over accident on Mohammad Bin Zayed road towards Sharjah at 9:45 p.m. on Friday.
Brigadier Yousef Al Adidi, director of Al Qusais police station, said a cement mixer crashed into four people, killing one person.
“One person was seriously injured and other two suffered moderate injuries while the driver escaped. Within an hour we identified his location and arrested him,” Brigadier Al Adidi said.
The driver was hiding in Sharjah and Dubai Police cooperated with Sharjah Police to arrest him.
“He was surprised with how we managed to identify his place within an hour. He confessed to his crime and claimed that he was scared and decided to escape the accident scene,” Brigadier Al Adidi added.
The suspect was referred to public prosecution.
