A giant eight foot tall Afghan cricket fan has been caught out by his height and refused entry to hotels in India where locals have flocked to see him.

Sher Khan pitched up for Afghanistan versus the West Indies in Lucknow, in the north of the country, but getting a room turned out to be a tall order.

Hoteliers were stumped by his 8ft 2in height and blocked him entry, so Khan trudged to the nearest police station on Tuesday night to make an appeal.

The locals were bowled over by the colossus who was taken to the Hotel Rajdhani by a police escort, with hundreds gathering to catch a glimpse of Khan.

'As many as 200 people have come to see him. He is very disturbed,' the hotel's owner told ANI.

The surging crowds continued into the following day and Khan was taken by a police guard to Ekana Stadium on Wednesday for the first ODI, NDTV reported.

Khan, of Kabul, who is staying in the city for another four days, watched his side get battered by the West Indies.

Roston Chase's superb all-round performance led the West Indies to a seven-wicket win.
